    By Patty Janes and Olivia Rau While there are a variety of terms in use to describe an organization’s social giving (corporate citizenship, triple bottom line, etc.), corporate social responsibility (CSR) is often used as an overarching term. CSR can be defined as actions outside an organization’s normal scope of business that seek to address the needs of the community beyond pure economics (Carroll, 1999). These activities seek to align social good and ethical obligations with business objectives. CSR is a function to meet — and hopefully exceed — stakeholder expectations. Holland State Park Volunteer Experience - Sept. 13 Holland State Park Volunteer Experience - Sept. 13-14

Holland, Michigan is known far and wide for it’s annual Tulip Time Festival featuring 5 million tulips blooming with color each May.

The vibrant lakeshore community is also home to a BIG Red Lake Michigan Lighthouse, a proud Dutch heritage, and a beautiful state park!

Tourism professionals from across Michigan are invited to join us in Holland Sept. 13-14 for a two-day volunteer experience at Holland State Park to connect with industry colleagues, help update, restore, and preserve another of Michigan’s tourism treasures, and of course, have FUN!

Traveling to the U.P. this summer or fall? Muskall Traveling to the U.P. this summer or fall? Muskallonge Lake State Park near Newberry recently opened a new accessible walkway connecting the park's Lake Superior overlook to the shoreline below. 

The project replaced a staircase that was damaged by high water levels, allowing visitors of all abilities to traverse the new boardwalk through the tree canopy and take in views of the lake. Another great addition to Michigan's beautiful state parks!

What a great morning at the zoo! 60 professionals What a great morning at the zoo! 60 professionals from Michigan’s tourism industry joined us bright and early Tuesday at @detroitzoo in advance of the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism for a volunteer work day to help the zoo prepare outdoor spaces for the upcoming season. 

After the work was done, we even got to see the penguins. Thank you to all who joined us!

Blending several goals of Michigan Cares for Tourism, teams of industry professionals will spend the morning volunteering alongside 11th-grade students from a Detroit charter school on more than 25 park projects.
